Tension, and confusion, is mounting as the rumoured release date for the new Atari VCS approaches.A November launch has been mooted, with Atari previously stating that pre-orders could be taken for delivery before Christmas. Walmart has reportedly sold out of allocated inventory whilst GameStop are now quoting a January 2021 date – if you order today.
November is coming up fast and mentions of a pre-Christmas delivery seem to have vanished from the official Atari VCS website although “Shipping 2020!” remains.
Interest in the new console has ramped up in recent weeks thanks to major publications and broadsheets covering Atari’s return to hardware. Atari has also signed distributor agreements with several retailers to cover New Zealand and Australia. No news yet on official European or UK stockists.
The clock is ticking and original backers have yet to see their order statuses change to “shipping”. We’ll update you as we get more news.
